Some new additions today Probus is a lil glossy so it was hard to shoot. Faustina Jr Denarius. FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, draped bust right / IVNO, Juno standing front, head left, holding scepter, feeding peacock at feet out of patera. RIC 688, RSC 120, BMC 104 Probus. AE Antoninus. 276-282 AD. IMP CM AVR PROBVS PF AVG, radiate bust left wearing imperial mantle, holding eagle-tipped sceptre / SOLI INVICTO, Sol in spread quadriga facing.M in lower centre. Mintmark XXIA.RIC V-2 Cyzicus 911.
I really like the Faustina II. Well centered and good detail. My best Faustina II is: FAUSTINA JR AR Denarius OBVERSE: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, diademed and draped bust right REVERSE: SAECVLI FELICIT, throne (Pulvinar) upon which sits Commodus and Antoninus Struck at Rome, 161-175 AD 3.22g, 17mm RIC 711 (Aurelius) RSC 190 I also have a Probus with a similar reverse struck at Serdica: PROBUS Antoninianus OBVERSE:IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG, radiate, mantled & cuirassed bust left holding eagle-tipped sceptre REVERSE: SOLI INVICTO, Sol in spread quadriga, holding globe and raising right hand. Mintmark KA Delta Struck at Serdica, 276-282 AD 3.2g, 24mm RIC V 861, D
Curious: Why did you mention the M in lower center but not the C? The two together makes up the city mark. There are a number of variations on the facing quadriga type from several mints. It was thoughtful of them to mark this one. I am fond of the unmarked but attributed to Siscia series showing flames under the horses.
I adore the silvered antoninianii ? of probus...some of the nicest reverse types in my opinion and just so many to collect it would seem......I have a few crusties, but some nice ones are on my collection hit list.
randygeki => ummm, I thought I'd try to sneak-in my AE version (however, your new silver-peacock is far more impressive) ...
