Hey gang! From time to time I like to take coins I am going to be sending in for regrades and post pictures and ask do you think it regrades higher then it is graded currently.

Here is our specimen. Does it grade higher then 64 Cameo? The first 2 pictures are raw out of my camera head on... the second 2 are at an angle.

I do plan to try to conserve the coin and remove the spots.

Pretty cameo TD! Hairlines on the surfaces would be the main grade limiting factor, I believe, and those can only be seen well by tilting the coin under a point source light. I guess you have already done that-- what do you think?

There are no noticeable hairlines on the coin.

Then, once the spots are gone I bet it will upgrade! That would be a coup!

Withouot hairlines and the spots removed , it should upgrade easily . Best of luck Matt .

I agree, great looking coin and worth taking a change on it to see if it upgrades

I dunno fellas. This one is a tricky question for us all.

I think he should send me the coin for safe keeping. :D

It looks like an old dip went bad. If NCS works on it, NGC would probably go 65 Cam or better. I'm thinking 66 Cam. Great coin as is but I agree it needs help before it gets worse.

If there are no hairlines, I see no reason that it won't upgrade.

I hope it does... The jump in price from 64cam to 65cam is huge.

The spots are the only negative. Wonder if that's what held (or will hold) it back.

I think so. I also think this coin was holdered in the pre NCS days. I bet they can conserve this one... Well I'm betting on it that is...

I hope you are right, but it has the appearance of being conserved already and I wonder if the spots have eaten into the luster. However, Matt, you have the coin in-hand and can make that assessment much better than I. Good luck! :)

Genius Fudge N' Crust! Very beautiful coin you have there Matt!
Hope all goes well and you have a coin greater than a 64 Cam after it's all said and done!

Originally I was going to try to conserve it myself... but I'm thinking I am going to let NCS do it. This is a lot of coin to mess up on..

Good idea to let the pros attempt to conserve this specimen, they have done wonders before with old mint proofs.

Wonderful proof T$! I just love these.

IMO it looks like a technical 65 but I don't think it will upgrade unless those spots can be removed. And I'd be surprised if they can. They are likely either stains from an earlier conservation or unfortunate copper spots. Conserving proofs is a delicate matter and I can't see NCS getting too aggressive. Let's hope it works out in your favor.

Best of luck! Let us know how it turns out.

    Update update update!!!

I did not do anything to the coin nor did NCS because I didn't send it there. I sent it to PCGS where it crossed.
