My Mood:  | 1919 Lincoln Error???
I have a 1919 Lincoln Cent with what seems to be an extra letter on the obverse. Notice just to the south of the T and R in the word TRUST, there is a letter A. It's worn but visible. Is anyone familiar with this?

Welcome, I'm not familiar, I'll guess and someone can correct me. A clash error? Like a die clash, I don't know. Someone will come by and fill you in on what it is. It's easy enough to see that's for sure.  | |

I had a local dealer tell me that it was a die drop as well. We were confused as to how the letter A would end up on the obverse where there is no letter A on the coin.

I have to say it could be from the feeder finger .the mark looks to out of shape for a die gouge or a die break or a die chip. Or maybe a possible clash die. we need clearer picsto determine the nature of the image near the T.

Weryon, Was that comment for me or someone who left a comment? I'm new to collecting and don't know much about errors. I took the best picture I could with what I have available. The letter is raised but worn. Is it such a bad thing that I'm here looking for other peoples opinions?

I believe that Weryon was specifically responding to Coincraze's obnoxious post above.
...So the A, or anomaly as we aren't sure what it is, is raised? That would preclude a dropped letter or any kind of clash. If you could get better pics maybe we can help out.

You need a good photo and then a Photoshop collage showing that it is the same size and font as a letter used somewhere on the coin. It appears a tad small, but I may be wrong...better pics might shed light on it...

There's almost no way a dropped letter can come from the back to the front, but it could go from front to back. I have no idea what it is, but it is very interesting. Is it raised metal or stamped in?
