He really meant to put $1786.50, but he added one too many 0's, and he can't change his ad!;)

What I find amusing is that it is at $17,865 and hasn't met reserve.

If it's worth that much, why couldn't he hire a top photographer?

What does that line about removing the serial number so the buyer will have a "fresh" coin mean?

What would be a rational price for a UHR with a population of 8 if the low population was due to something more meaningful than "early release"? (I understand why "early release" has nothing to do with the condition of the coin).

EDIT: Closed auctions for MS70 PL UHRs show $5300. If people are willing to pay $12,000 extra for "early release", does that mean I should start buying coins as soon as they come out, slabbing them, and flipping them to people who believe that's important?

All it will take for PCGS or NGC to come out with some new hype in a couple of years. I think the TPGs provide some value add on determining the relative grade of coins and some comfort level against counterfeiting, but beyond that, their labels are just ink on paper. Kinda like the currency that that many coin investors shun for this activity.

That is a wild auction however. It's got 5 more days to go.

I'd like to see a 2oz UHR coin. I like my 1oz UHR but would really like a 2ozUHR

Maybe if the palladium bubble bursts soon the Mint can stock up and finally issue that proposed palladium UHR.

That's just freakin' ridiculous. What a rube to spend that kind of money on something that will never appreciate to that level....

    The auction states this:

Please Note: I have removed the serial number from the image so that the winner of the auction will have a fresh NON registered coin. I would be happy to email the winner with the serial number after the auction.

How the heck do you remove the serial number without opening the holder. We got two rubes. The one that bought it and the one that sold it.......

One sold on heritage for $2530 back last October. I doubt if the coin has appreciated this much in a few short months.....

    How many purchased

When they took off the limits maybe someone cracked their piggy bank and bought all they could get.
Just looks wrong that 47 people really bid this to a level that makes no rational sense.

Should also note that if you look at the bid history it's not 47 unique bidders.

Most of them have very few or zero feedback... suspicious?

This is why you should always check Elaine's information. She is only impressed by big numbers and skews perception by posting such links and info here on CT.

With all the record highs for gold lately I was browsing ol Ebay and noticed that raw 2009 UHR's are selling for $2700~ each and MS70's are going for over $3,000 a pop. I just wanted to take the opportunity to laugh at all of the people who claimed that these coins would merely be considered bullion coins in the future... wait for it...

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

Excellent. Continue on with your regularly scheduled programming. :)

The article in Aprils Coin World didn't hurt anything either. It's the main headline to their Coin Values section.
