Bullion coins are worth a small premium above melt because the fact that they are coined means the buyer is also buying certification of the weight and purity compared to, say, a vile of gold flakes. I'm sure the Mint will extract their pound of flesh, but not from me. It is occasionally possible to buy gold coins below melt value. After ordering, I went to my account to make sure the order was there. It was, but it said order suspended and it gave the time of the order as July 22, 2008 at 12:04 AM! Now I'm not sure if it went through or not. Watching MSNBC and they are talking about the big downturn of gold. One of the investors they interviewed expected gold to drop even further before we see an upswing. This is crazy! So what do we do????? Do we return all our Buffalo sets in protest of the value of gold?????? The mint dosen't care.
