I agree with you that these coins will probably be worth nothing more than bullion..... But when would the premium above melt be justified? The mint will always get their cut. Just like the American Eagles, only those that like the coins and have the funds will be buying them.

Bullion coins are worth a small premium above melt because the fact that they are coined means the buyer is also buying certification of the weight and purity compared to, say, a vile of gold flakes. I'm sure the Mint will extract their pound of flesh, but not from me. It is occasionally possible to buy gold coins below melt value. This seems to happen more with gold than silver.

Not sure if this is a problem or not, but I just went on line at 12:04 to order. After ordering, I went to my account to make sure the order was there. It was, but it said order suspended and it gave the time of the order as July 22, 2008 at 12:04 AM!

Now I'm not sure if it went through or not. Looks like the mint's clock is 12 hours off.

Mine too. I am sure they will fix the problem soon enough.

STOP THE MADNESS!

Watching MSNBC and they are talking about the big downturn of gold. One of the investors they interviewed expected gold to drop even further before we see an upswing. This is crazy! So what do we do????? Do we return all our Buffalo sets in protest of the value of gold?????? The mint dosen't care. They are not going to lower the prices of their gold sets.

didnt i tell you not to buy the buffalo and sell your old coins. The buffaloes were always a losing proposition if you want gold to rise just wait for a few months.
