I know this probably has been discussed a million times but I would like for my upcoming B day and maybe Xmas like around $100.00 of bullion or rounds even 90% would do. My Wife is very disgusted on searching and prices and then shipping. Places want X amount for checks then X amount for Credit, But she is not sure if the check will get there and clear in time. So could you good folks help a gal out that does not have much for money but wants to make me happy with as much silver that she can buy for what is in her budget? Probably around $115.00 THANKS JON
best option for a small silver buy is probably silvertowne, they offer 1 oz bars for less than $3 over spot with free shipping and you can use a cc http://www.silvertowne.com/c-498-silvertowne-bars.aspx You could get (3) silvertowne 1 oz bars for less than $108 shipped currently....
I know in my area a cash for gold place sells ASE and other rounds for only $2 over spot. Also many LCS will sell close to spot on junk silver if not spot.
can't go wrong supporting local business and they usually have better deals then on the internet. but a lot of dealers also only accept cash
90% silver U.S. coinage at spot. A dealer typically uses .715 oz of silver in $1 face value to calculate the silver content. For example if the dealer was selling 90% at spot and you wanted $5 fv here would be the calc. $5 fv x .715 oz of silver, 3.575 oz of silver x 33.00 (current spot) = your price $117.975
Indeed. My recommendation is do a search for local coin shows. For small amounts it's your best choice as you don't have to pay for shipping, insurance and other fees.
When my wife and kids ask me what I want for any occasion, I always tell them an ASE or maple leaf, and advise them to just go to the local coin store and buy it. It makes it easy on them.
Central NY is quite a big area. You might want to narrow your search area a little bit. Then, too, you might want to try google.com. Type what you are looking for and your zip code into the search box. If it exists, it'll show up there.
there are coin shows every month in Syracuse and Rochester where dealers set up. that might be a start. but as posted central NY is a wide area, depends on where your at.
Absolutlely find a LCS. If you find a good one, they'll take care of you because they'll want you to keep coming back. Heck, the one I've been going to gives me a 10% discount on coins now. They sell junk silver only slightly above melt and generic rounds and "circulated" ASEs with a very small premium.
Depends what state your in as well, if your in a state that charges sale tax it will be hard for an LCS to compete with online pricing...... Looks like you have to buy over a $1,000 worth of bullion to be exempt in New York, when you factor in gas and sales tax you are almost certainly better off buying from a good online seller http://thecoinologist.com/sales-tax-state-by-state-breakdown/ New York Coins and Paper Money are Taxable, Bullion is Exempt when over $1000.
For $100 you're looking at about 3 oz of silver. Not worth the shipping fees IMO. What I would do first is decide if you want generic bullion or government bullion. Then call the local coin shops in your area and price check. You should be able to get eagles and maples for $3-4 over spot, and generic for $1-2 over spot. Shops in my area tend to be on the high end of those numbers. For generic, sometimes you can find neat Christmas bars on the cheap.
I actually found some eagles for $2 over spot today, tarnished or scuffy, but I was happy to take them home
