I am thinking of running a contest for the 25Th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set. It would only be for people who were unable to get a set from the Mint. It would be a set graded by NGC all MS69 and PF69. It would include the presentation box from the Mint. The winner of the contest would get it for my cost which is $400 total which is $300 for the set plus $100 my cost of grading. Shipping free. Payment by Paypal is fine.

So what do people think? Sound like something you would be interested in? Let's hear your opinion.

That would be nice.. I wasn't able to get a set when it went on sale... I'd be happy getting a set ungraded~ but this would be a nice contest for a graded set..

Very noble gesture. I think I have some sets but they're still in stock and reserved. How will you know if the contestants weren't able to get any from the mint though?

Thanks for your response. I got 5 sets and they all went in for grading..wish I had an ungraded set to offer.

Thanks..I hope you get your sets..That is a good question..I will have to go by peoples post and the honor system to determine who or who didn't get a set.

Graded or ungraded..Getting a set as a contest winner for that price would be great for someone that didn't manage a set...

Oh my! More than kind. We should all be so kind... well at least me. I for one would be happy to participate if you have enough response.

I ordered two sets so I wouldn't be eligible/playing. But a question for you, how do you determine those playing didn't get a set or five or ten+ already from other sources?

I know I won't be buying any on Ebay based on prices of 600 and more.. My little budget just doesn't stretch that far..

Good question. First by going through past posts to see if I can tell..Second will have to be the honor system. Not perfect but I can't think of any other way. Hopefully people have enough scruples like yourself and let someone who wasn't lucky enough to get a set from the Mint get a chance.

Very nice gesture by you flyers10. We have some great people on this forum!!!! I wish I would have ordered a couple extra sets so I could have offered them up to those who couldnt get in. I'm really not into flipping at the expense of shutting collectors out.

I might also recommend that to know your players, limit those with too few CT posts. People might come out of lurking and be first time posters you don't know, who are trying to help themselves to another set of these 'currently' profitable coin sets.

I will disqualify myself right now because I could afford ebay. Beware of lurkers becoming members!

Perhaps get help from one of the Moderators in helping to get your ground rules in place?

    Flyers,

I think it's a great idea and very nice of you to do. I did manage to purchase a set which is supposed to be delivered on Monday. Anyway, the goal of the contest might be something like to guess what day the 2011-P Vickburg puck will go on sale. It might be December or it might be January or who knows? Whoever comes the closest gets to order the set. You will need some sort of tie-breaker though like guessing your birthday or something like that.

I agree with the others regarding making sure it goes to someone who didn't get a set already. I'm not quite sure the honor system is the way to go, though, as there are even people on this hallowed board who went completely against the Mint's intent and skirted the ordering restrictions by using a different address and credit card to order extra sets, thus blocking other people from being able to get just 1 set for themselves. Slimeballs will usually be slimeballs, regardless of the situation. Anyway, it's a very noble gesture and you should be applauded for it.
