    1985 p nickel that looks as if the outer layer is peeling off. Im a noob at this still but would like your thoughts on this. Thank you in advance .

    Looks like a combination of circulation wear with some environmental damage.

    Laminations are not unusual on nickels, but this doesn't look like one to me.

    It was caused by environmental damage. PMD.

    Nickels do not have an outer layer like Clad Coins do.
