To steal a thread idea from Rickie B's paper money one, post your most prized coin (or coins if you can't decide). Note: I know this type of thread has been done in the past, but it was almost a year ago (I think) now and we have gotten many new members. So in an attempt to not hear the whining of why I would bring up a dead thread, I simply made a new one. I'll post mine later stainles
While I have more valuable coins, the Xing Chao Tong Bao 1 Fen coin of the Ming Rebel Sun Kewang (1648-57) is my favourite. Beautifully designed, well cast and BIG - 46.8mm.
The cornerstone of my Jefferson Nickel Registry Set. It is not even close to the most expensive, but without it, my registry set would take a huge hit. To this day I have not found another Jefferson Nickel with toning that even comes close to the eye appeal exhibited by this coin.
Most prized? That is very tough to answer. Since the number of coins in my collection (U.S. type and Conder tokens) is small, I have tried to only buy ones that have something special about them. I guess (at least for today) that I'll post my PCGS VF-25 Fugio. I prize it not because it is the most expensive or best mint state piece in my collection, but I appreciate the history that the coin represents of our colonial past, the legend attributed to Ben Franklin about the importance of taking care of business while other distractions exist, and that the coin itself is a nice milk chocolate color with minimal planchet flaws (along with a cool reverse die crack). So, there you have it!
Now who would want that worn old thing? I don't see anything special about it... But seriously, THAT is why you cherrypick.
For sentimental value it would be the coins that were my grandpa's, and too many to list. Most valuable would be 1921 Peace Dollar in Fine.
here is mine 1988/89 Lincoln cent http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa51/pennyfinder24/DSC00720.jpg http://www.varietyvista.com/1988PRDV0061 cent.htm
Thanks to scanner washout, you can barely tell, but this is a beautifully toned wheatback cent. The center is almost golden in color, and it deepens as it reaches the edges, eventually reaching a rich purple. It's not worth much on its own, but my father gave it to me, and that, along with its fantastic eye appeal (again, not that you can tell here), make it my most prized coin.
Not my most expensive, but it's the one I like to look at most lately and I don't think I could ever find another with the same eye appeal.
thank you very much RlM's Cents. Going to save that info and use it tomorrow... getting later and later but my curiousity and learning...
Here are mine. The four Peace Dollars on the right. I inherited these from my father, who got them from somebody else in my family. It's even possible I am the 4th generation in my family to be in possesion of them!
