after hunting rolls for some time now, i look back on my first silver find in a roll as borderline miraculous...

long story short: i had checked my pocket and laundry change for about two years with no silver finds. the first time i decided to check rolls i bought 10 rolls of quarters at a bank.

the VERY FIRST roll of quarters i opened had a 1935 quarter! i thought "wow, that was easy."

i have checked thousands of dollars worth of quarters since and have not found another silver one; but finding that '35 washington in my first roll ever hooked me good. i figure that's how they get you..

i'd be interested to read about others' experiences. what was your first silver find in a roll? was it the find that hooked you into the hobby, or were you already hooked in by some other means?

I decided to ask for some half dollar rolls at my bank about 3 years ago. They had about 6 that looked like they’d been there a while. Got them home and found 17 40% Kennedys, 5 90% Kennedys and 3 Franklins. After that I never found any more, I think everybody was searching by then. That was so cool, but now I don’t even bother.

Before I turned ten years old we used silver coins every day. We did not have to search rolls for silver coins; we got them in change. Does that count?

When I was younger my dad saved silver coins he found in change for me. However my first find while actually roll searching was when I decided to go to a TD Bank after work one day last October and asked for some halves. They had about $10 face and I believe 5 were 40% halves so I have been searching since.

My first silver found in a roll was actually about a year ago when I was searching nickell rolls and I found a silver war nickel.

I don't remember my first (hehe...uh, wait) but in 2009 I would come across quarters and dimes pretty often in the till at work. I can hear that one silver ring in a large handful of change. I hung on to them for my folders (pre-Dansco for me) The silver value never really occurred to me until 2011ish. Really jumped into stacking last year and even with the higher prices back then the amount of silver I got at face value still kept my average price below $20 an ounce. Not so much anymore with some of the nicer coins I bought recently. I started CRH halves about 2 months ago and have done alright. Not going to complain about being skunked since I'm not out any money. My gf says I'm like a 6 year old with a new toy when I find one so the entertainment factor is a bonus, and it keeps me out of trouble.

I had a jar of coins with about 10 dimes in it, and one of the dimes happened to be a '48. Then on my first look in a CoinStar reject bin I found a 1957 quarter. Then I got 2 dime rolls, only TWO. And guess what's inside? A '63 dime. This all happened over the course of a week or two.:smile

I had been browsing this site quite regularly until one day, I decided to do some CRH myself. I found a credit union in town that had on hands boxes of half dollars. I created an account with them, and asked for 10 rolls of half dollars. Once I left, I searched all 10 rolls and found a single 1964 half dollar. I was amazed and have since been hooked.

However, long story short, that credit union and I had a scuffle so I no longer order from that branch. But, in a bank where I have taken out 3-4 loans and have the majority of my money, I have been ordering boxes for the past 9 months. Now, my regular order is 2 boxes of halves and 4 boxes of nickels per week. I love it.

The first silver I found was when I got about 20 rolls of dimes and found a mercury and 2 pre 64' dimes. Was rather awesome, but I have not really had such success since.

I worked at a Best Buy and was cracking rolls for the register and saw a pretty 1937 Silver Quarter. I swapped it out and was totally hooked. Now I'm hooked so badly it's ridiculous! :-(

After searching pennies for a few months, I decided to venture outwards into nickels. I got 2 boxes and found 5 war nickels.

My mom was at bank to get some coins. She asked for a roll with old coins. There was a 1942p nickel on the end of the roll. The bank teller was wondering what the giant p was. So my mom got that roll so I could dig through it. And it was silver. But the first silver I found my self was a 1944s nickel that someone at my school bought milk with.

I have always been addicted to money (i even sign my name with dollar signs, including on my drivers permit) and one day i was looking up the money signs so i could use a photo as a wallpaper on my ipad when i came across this website. That same day, i just had to go to the bank and get $250 in dimes to search through and after going through the whole box, i found no silver at all but i was told to keep trying and in my next box i found one silver roosevelt in the 5th roll. I have been addicted since then.

by the way, that was only like 3 weeks ago and i've now found 6 silver dimes in total, including the first.

I never searched through dimes at work until a few weeks ago, when I found a silver dime (probably a 1964). I started searching rolls when we needed them in the register, and I started finding them so often that I was beginning to think they were common. I found 2 in one roll, and 14 in one week. Haven't found any in about 2 weeks though.

I started searching half dollar rolls when I was a kid. It was a bit common to find 40 % halves in the late 1970s and early 80s than it is now. My first 90% was a 1964, but the first cool find was a 1963 Frankie.

I'm on my third box of halves and still haven't hit a silver yet... hoping it will be soon.
