As we all know coins have 3 sides. Obverse, reverse, and edge. So this thread is pretty simple. If you had to pick just one side of any US coin ever minted to chose as your personal favorite what would it be and why? I chose the reverse of the $10 Indian. In my opinion I believe this to be the best portrayal of the Eagle to ever appear on a US coin. Image from Heritage. HA.com
I like the reverse on the standing liberty halves. That's the kind of coin that makes coin collecting fun for me.
It just isn't a coin unless it has a teet on it....,,, even the one's that have been around abit and are no longer uncirculated.
Wow, there's so many designs I like that it's tough to pick just one. For me, it would probably either be the obverse of a Draped Bust Cent or the obverse of the Peace Dollar. There's a lot of other nice ones though that come to mind.
The Jefferson nickel edge.......just kidding!!! Even though I've only got a few, and I mainly collect Morgans, I'm gonna have to say the reverses of both the seated liberty and walking liberty halves. Something about a nicely toned very fine reverse of a Seated half makes me all fuzzy inside.
The Indian $10 gold eagles are great as are most St. Gauden's US gold coin designs... but I'm going with the student's work, Bela Lyon Pratt's incuse quarter & half Indian design:
There are so many that I love, obverse of the Peace and Merc, the Liberty Bell on the Franklin, both sides of Walkers, and the obverse of the St. Gaudens. But I agree, my favorite is the incuse Quarter Eagle!
