I got a 1932 1 peso coin from my coin shop today for $7.50.I started wondering what the melt value of it would be.Not necessarily the spot price today but exactly how much silver is in it.It seems to say .72 which I assume is the purity of silver? So based on the weight, what is the value?

The melt value is 3.13 dollars based on todays kitco prices.

Oh, there is 8.64 grams of silver in that coin. It weighs 12 grams, and is .72 fine.

When I was a boy (1960s) my dad had a hardware store in Leon County, Texas. There were always a lot of Mexican workers who would come in and buy stuff using these and the other big "Cinco Pesos" silver pieces.

My old man treated them just like a silver dollar which he used to get every now and then too. He'd sell everything from summer sausage to, saddles, nails and lumber, .22 rifles, even minnows... Those were the days :)
