I feel rather confused by those that aren't on a budget why the current rash of high priced gold fever is just taking over at the mint. $50 buffalos going for $800.00. AGE just dropping right and left. I admit they are pretty, but I have to say if I did have $800 burning a hole in my pocket, I still couldn't see it.

I've always had silver fever, maybe thats it, gold doesn't do it for me.

I personally enjoy modern coins.. but bullion where the potential investment profit is taken away from you and given to the mint, broker, etc , it's not investing is it?

Eventhough the S-VDB is a rarity and sought after by many collectors I personnally will always go for the silver. Actually if compared side by side the Peace dollar, to me, is one beautiful coin and a piece of history from long before I was born.

The modern gold coins are too inflated for me to have any real interest. I would just as soon by gold rounds that have an artistic feature and pay closer to spot then give the mint a premium on a modern coin.

Well I would go with the Peace Dollar for a few reason---I don't collect that many coins dated after 1964....I also don't have that date of Peace Dollar....its a nice high grade....and IMHO the 1909-S VDB is over priced....I got one in VF last year for less than $850.

Gold's not for me either and I already have an 09-S VDB, so the 28 is calling my name.

The 28 also has about 20% lower mintage than the 09-S VDB and is in MS condition. Sure it was minted almost 20 years later, but the point to look at is condition and mintage, and you could throw in the larger denomination factor too.

I do feel that the 09-S VDB is over hyped, but I'm kinda glad it is because that means my coin is worth a lot more!!!

No, it isn't investing. If you want to invest in gold and/or silver, you should seek to purchase the maximum number of ounces for the lowest cost per ounce. Anything with a substantial collector's premium built into the price might go up or might go down completely independent of the metal content. That doesn't mean it can't or won't go up in price, but the outcome becomes a coin flip.

    I'd buy this: 2006-W American Gold Eagle BU $50.00 1 oz. ($720)

I don't like pennies, I'm not a big Peace Dollar fan...it's pretty but my niche is gold and I like the new 2006 W unc. The mintage is 30,000+ whatever they sell in singles. I can't imagine it would be more than 100,000 but who knows. It will be less than the proof for certain..and it's a damn pretty coin.

If it doesn't go up much, that ok..it's still going to be worth more later. I have enough diversity in my colelction to not worry about 1 coin....but it is pretty.

I'd go with the small cent. Gold is easy to find. Key dates sometimes aren't.

I voted for the 2006-W American Gold Eagle BU $50.00 1 oz., but in reality, if I had $800 to spend on a coin, I'd be going for something gold, but older...like a $20 Liberty or St. Gaudens.

As key dates go, the 1909S-VBD is a pretty common coin. Actually, some of the proof bullion issues are somewhat scarce in comparison.

I finally voted for the BU eagle. It seems to be the least overpriced on a percentage basis of all of the overpriced coins.

There is actually a lot of coins that could be on that list. For me I'd go for the 1942/41 or 42D/41 Mercury Dime. Only because that stupid Whitman Album has a slot for them. I'd like to through in the 22 plain Lincoln Cent also.

I voted for the peace dollar it seemed like the best deal to me a 1909 s vdb would have been nice but I think it was overpriced at that price as for the gold I am not a big fan of it in the first place and of modern gold period

I would choose the 2006 gold proof I like to be economical and make good (long or short term) investments

    I'd go with the 09-S-VDB.

One because I could sell it later for a higher price than I paid (doubt the price will drop any time soon), and second because it is one of the keys I still need to complete my collection.

Forgot number three, Lincolns are my favorite thing to collect. That's what got me started and that's where my heart will always be. Although Morgans are EXTREMELY close second...

I voted for the 1909S-VDB simply becouse it was the first coin i really looked for when i had my paper route almost 40 years ago. never found one. It would be kind of nice to have one but it would have been better if i could have found one instead of buying one. I still like gold and silver . the morgans would have been my next choice
