Beware of this fake quadrans of the seasons which keeps popping up: https://www.deamoneta.com/auctions/view/753/392 It appeared last year and is in acsearch at least back 10 years: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=862682 It has previously been condemned: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-19838 Style is very off for the issue- if anyone has contacts with this auction company, please let them know.
Thank you for pointing this out. There is an email address at the bottom of the page info@artemideauktionen.at. Did you write them?
I wrote to the auction house yesterday, let's see what happens. Generally speaking, I'm a bit irritated by the catalogue for Artemide Kunstauktionen 16. My previous experiences with this auction house have been good to very good, and I've always counted them among the trustworthy dealers. Yet, there seems to have been some kind of lapse with their latest auction that goes beyond this admittedly deceptive fake. For example, the obverse on this one (lot 44) looks like an obvious and extremely botched tooling job to me. Listed with a starting price of €150 as "Toned. VF" without any mentioning of the tooling: I'd be very surprised if this one (lot 59) wasn't tooled, too. Listed as "Nice green patina. VF" without further comments: Did they maybe let the intern write the descriptions? That's way below the level of diligence I am used to from this auction house.
The toning on the silver is EGREGIOUS. It just looks rather awful. Too bad, as the coin would have been quite attractive without the abuse
It has ocurred to me too that Artemide sells a whole lot of problem coins thesedays. With a high starting bid, and little regard to the problems. I don’t like it.
Ah, com’on man! More whack’ a mole. And this one they didn’t even try and skuff up! https://www.biddr.com/auctions/numismatiknaumann/browse?a=1505&l=1610963
