Chuckle, here is a good example of some of the questions I receive. But, as you can imagine it gets frustrating when something like this happens. Apparently, both parties are unsure if the coin is genuine, hmmmm...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Subject: ebay item #180205814003 1799 draped bust

    Question:
Can you look at the back of the coin and tell me if it is a true eagle? It looks more like a penguin and I won the item for $600. After reading the question posted at the bottom, I believe it is not a real draped bust. Also the eagle has no shield. If you believe it is not real, can you email me your answer, and I will send it to the seller.

just on a quick look.....compared to other like coins...the "O" on the OF on the reverse looks too square on the bottom.

    I vote copy.

It's a blatant copy which has little in common with a genuine 1799 bust coin of any denomination.

Wow, I saw that coin on ebay yesterday, and I was about to bid but didn't know if it was reel or not :rolling:

Well, last night I advised the individual that it was an obvious counterfeit and left it at that... It's always better to ask the question BEFORE you buy, alas :(

I'm still trying to get over "it looks like a penguin". :D Wouldn't it be common sense "It doesn't look real, the eagle doesn't look right, and there is no shield" Hmm, obviously real, just a really rare mint error that happened in the engraving process. My mistake. :p Ignorance is bliss.

    Phoenix

Interestingly, the same "penguin" appears on an 1806 Draped Bust Half this buyer bought last month.

If it's any consolation she got the "coin" overnighted to her.

"Would be willing to ship overnight if item goes over $600"

    Winning bid:US $600.01

If that was the real figure of Liberty many immigrants during the 1800's may not have come here.
    Scary as all heck.
