Hey guys, I just got back from Edmonton and am very excited to show you a new coin. It's an 1846 Small Date Large cent, Now I'm not sure if there's more attribution available then that. Maybe you guys could help me out. Please give me your grade opinions. I've been waiting to get one of these for a while now. So I am very excited to have one. Yahoo!!!
I've got Grellman's book and I can't figure out the variety. I like pictures and he uses words more so the book doesn't dew me much good. :goofer: Love it! :thumb: Ribbit
Sure but if you don't have Grellmans book it isn't going to make much sense. Tip of the bust is at or just slightly right of the end of the serif of the 1. That's position 2 or 3. That fits N-1,2,3,4,8,15,19,and 21. Point of the curl is over the inner curve of the 8. That fits N-8,15,19, and 21. (if it is slightly further right the it stilll fits all the previous varieties as well.) The left edge of the foot of the 1 is over the center or ver slightly right of center of a dentical. That is Grellman's position 1 and the only variety of the group we are looking at that fits that is N-19
Cool, I looked on HA just now and couldn't find one in this condition. What would you guys grade it, and would 40$ be too much?
I'd call it XF details, cleaned/corroded, net VF. $40 is a bit steep, but not too bad if you like the coin....Mike
R-4 is 75 - 200. Yes that sounds really small, but most large cent varieties don't start bringing much of a premium over type coin money until they hit R-5. Especially the late dates.
