Yet More Last Stuff - Hong Kong Mercantile Bank $ 100 1974

    This is just a plain very lovely note, so red and so well printed by Thomas De La Rue:

    Mercantile Bank Ltd. was opened beginning in 1853 in Bombay India, but moved it's headquarters to London in 1858. They opened banks in Hong Kong by 1857 and began issuing banknotes in 1859. This $100 from 1974 marks the last issue of paper money from this bank. The bank was subsequently sold to Citibank in 1984 and then Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in 1987. Notice again the apparently Caucausian appearance of the feminine vignette on this note.
