Yet another Byzantine post...

    Its been a while since I posted anything. Work and family commitments has sucked almost all of my free time. Figured I can spare a few moments to breath a bit during yet another "work through the weekend" week. Here is an older coin that I just attributed. It belongs in the same family as another one that I added as an unidentified trachy:

    Empire of Nicaea: John III Ducas-Vatazes (1222-1254) BI Trachy, Magnesia (Sear 2100; DOC IV, Type L 46)
    Obv: MP - ΘV in field; Half-length figure of Virgin, nimbate, orans, wearing tunic and maphorion
    Rev: IШ; Half-length figure of emperor on left, and of Virgin nimbate, holding between them labarum on long shaft. Emperor wears stemma, divistion, collar-piece and jeweled loros of simplified type; holds scepter cruiciger in right hand and Virgin wears tunic and maphorion

    Another interesting one that was part of a 5-coin lot. The interesting thing about the coin is that its has a tag as an ex-Dumbarton Oaks coin...

    Obv: St. Demetrius enthroned facing, holding sword across knees
    Rev: Michael, holding cross-tipped scepter and akakia, being crowned by St. Demetrius; Manus Dei above
