I have some coins from India, 4 of them have, shall I call, issues. I don't know if these are of any value or I should just drop them back into the jar and keep just for looks. I will send the first two for review then follow-up the second two. The first one is missing the "1" in the date and the second one there seems to be damage on the reverse, don't know if that was during the production process or after. Thank you, Valerie
Welcome! The modern coinage of India is generally poorly produced, with lots of defects like you show. They aren't really worth much at all. The first one exhibits a classic "grease filled die." Sometimes, junk can fall onto the die, and clogs up the little devices. There will be a blank spot on the coin where there should have been a number - like the missing 1. The second one exchibits a laminated planchet. Basically, when they were making the metal for the coin, it didn't get thoroughly mixed. There are some streaks from some of the alloy, which can cause flaking or streaks like you see. Both of these are common errors, and add no premium.
Thank you so much, have a wonderful weekend! I will post the other 2 coins in question over the weekend.
