yellow pennies

    Bought some wheat pennies they have a thick yellow coating that has a mirror finish how do i get it off

    Post a pic so we can see the extent of the coating. If it's a foreign substance then maybe acetone but if it was coated like coins you can buy on HSN then I dont know of a way.

    Gold plating can't be removed without damaging the coin.

    Does it look like these? If so it's been plated with zinc which turns gold/yellow when heated.

    Probably plated, no way to remove without damaging the surfaces.
