I have two coins from the Netherlands that I am not positive on which year I should file them under. The reason for this is because each coins has two years on them. The first coin says 1938 in the shells around the value mark (5 cents) and then on the reverse under the head of Queen Beatrix it says 1980. The second coin is also a 5 cent coin with the years 1948 in the shells and on the reverse under the head of Wilhelmina it says 1945.

I was thinking that this could be something similar to the Spanish pesetas where they have the design year and the year they were made, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me which date is which?

    Thank you.

    These are "Medallic Coinage"

The 1945/1948 was wrongly struck with those dates, however it is not classed as an error and only worth $4
The other should be classed as struck in 1980 and again only $4.
Eight different square 5 Cents were struck in the "Medallic Coinage" theme.

BTW all were struck in 1980.

    Jello,
The ones the OP is showing were not circulating coins, they are lager Medallic Coinage as can be seen in
Krause Unusual World Coins 5th Edition X#2 and X# 6
The ones you are displaying were circulating Dutch coinage.
