Hello community! I just signed up today after lurking for a few months. I'm very new to the hobby so obviously I'm still in the absorb knowledge phase. I have decided to collect all of the Year of Astronomy 2009 coins and I have managed to get most of them except for two. Does anyone know how I could find the Romania Silver and Luxembourg Stamp and Coin set? I have scoured ebay and all of the mints I could think of and so far nothing. I was able to find pictures of them though. http://www.freewebs.com/spacecoins/upload 2009/lux20091.jpg http://www.freewebs.com/spacecoins/upload 2009/roemyear2009-1.jpg
Cool thanks for posting and welcome!! I didn't even know about the 2009 Year of Astronomy coins but it sounds interesting and I'll have to look into it now! Hopefully someone here can help you out. Good luck!
Welcome! In a way, we are all in that phase, and it won't come to an end. Not sure because, unlike some other countries, LU and RO issued those sets but not actually "Int'l Year of Astronomy" coins. The Romanian set, for example, contains the four coins (see the images you found) but the commemorative piece is a medal. See http://www.bnr.ro/Numismatics-1164.aspx#CATEG_103 "Mint set encompassing the Romanian coins in circulation and a silver medal dedicated to the anniversary of the International Year of Astronomy" (hmm, clicking that line on the page takes me back to the BNR start page) The set from Luxembourg was issued and sold by the postal service, see http://www.pt.lu/portal/lang/en/Philatelie/pid/3144 That contains the stamps, plus the eight regular circulation coins. Edit: This eBay seller for example http://stores.ebay.de/terranumis has the Romanian set (see item number 140367300573). Please note that I don't know the seller/store and hardly ever use eBay. I just had a brief look at the site ... Christian
Not sure I can answer your question, but I particularly love this coin: http://mintissue.ramint.gov.au/mintissue/product.asp?code=801373
For those who don't know much about the Year of Astronomy, this page may be interesting: http://coins.sjrdesign.net/collection_IYA2009.html Not a complete collection of all IYA issues, but a nice combination of photos, descriptions and additional info. Christian
wow that is an interesting set that I would love to have of my own. Has anyone bought from a foreign bank and if so when they converted the charge from XXX to U.S Dollars or vice versa was there an additional charge?
So with all of these countries around the world participating in this coin set, why not a U.S. example??? Were we not invited to play along???
Guess that your country decided to not participate - coin wise, that is. As far as the Year of Astronomy is concerned, the website of the US "node" is here: http://astronomy2009.us/ Christian
Thank you for finding those two sets! One step closer to completing the full IYA set. It's been kind of entertaining to get mail from a different country everyday. I know the mailman is wondering what's going on.
