Hi Chuck, your photo is quite out of focus. Could you take better photos of both sides please, and then a good clear photo of the date and mint mark?

Thanks for posting, Chuck, and Welcome to Coin Talk !!

Hey Chuck, thanks for the better pix. Chuck, there's one thing you've really got to do : Learn to trust the experts !! When it comes to pennies in general and Pennie Errors in specific, there is no better " Go To Guy " than paddyman. He has years of knowledge and experience that others, such as you and I, will never attain.
Trying the same error 3 or 4 times won't change the answer.

Have you ever heard of Einstein? He has been quoted as saying : " The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again, while expecting a different outcome each time. "

No one around here, including you Chuck, is crazy, but sometimes repeated actions come close.

The only thing, if anything, I would add to paddy's diagnoses (and paddy, please correct me if I'm wrong) is that it appears that zinc rot may have set in around that mint mark.

Thanks for posting Chuck. Keep searching, keep posting, and please don't be discouraged. Sooner or later you'll find something good.

The mint mark for coins stopped being applied by hand striking them on the dies in 1990 for the cents, and engraved into the die at the mint with the new digitized processes. thus eliminating any overstrikes of mintmarks ( last one 1956 D/S) or Repunched MM ( 1989 D RPM-004) on the cent. So impossible at the mint. Jim.

That's a D mintmark over a plating blister that popped open.

Hi Chuck. We were all rookies at one time or another. Myself ? Not so long ago.

On your new post, it appears to be a small die break or chip at the top and between, the letters N and E.

That is called a die chip. A fairly common Mint error that usually brings a couple of extra dollars.
