Here's a link that will interest some of you; www.numiswiki.com . If we cannot get the British Commonwealth numismatic project up & running here, then the above link is something we can all fall back on to.What do you think? Aidan.
Banned from wikipedia I have the greatest respect for your numismatic knowledge, Aidan. You clearly surpass my own (extremely) limited knowledge. I congratulate you on your recent published article, and I wish you well on the numiswiki project. But I would like to point out to those others who are reading, who may not be aware of this, that Aidan was recently banned permanently from editing any articles on Wikipedia due to numerous policy violations (not specifically linked to his work on the Wikipedia Numismatics WikiProject). There is a large group of wiki enthusiasts at Wikipedia who are continuing to expand and clarify many numismatic articles in Wikipedia. Feel free to visit numiswiki as well, too.
Markkawika,I was banned from editing Wikipedia because of the attitudes of certain people who took exception to my use of the term 'British Commonwealth'.They had the cheek to call me a subhuman racist, which I am not.I may be a British Commonwealth nationalist, but I am no supporter of apartheid at all. Aidan.
It's "Commonwealth of Nations" Apparently the consensus on Wikipedia is that it is officially called "Commonweath of Nations". So because Aidan insisted on calling it "British Commonwealth" that made them mad. Anyway, good to see you again on CoinTalk, Aidan. Your wealth of knowledge about British Commonwealth coinage is truly breathtaking.
I have always called it "British Commonwealth" and always will....I think it is a "generational" thing.
Same here it was and allways will be the British Commonwealth LOL De Orc :thumb: Just had a quick peek on the net and came up with British Commonwealth of Nations LOL Still got the British bit in there.
Thanks. Markkawika, thanks for your message of support.Wikipedia lost me once they started imposing their offensive politically correct nonsense by changing my articles.I have always asserted my British Commonwealth nationalism through expressing things in a context that makes sense to a lot of people.'Commonwealth of Nations' is,in my view,an offensive misuse of the word 'nation',which is an ethnological term anyway. So we call it the British Commonwealth,as it is politically neutral. Aidan.
Just saw this thread... Thanks for your hard work on the wiki, Aidan. I was surprised when I popped in a few days ago and saw all the new articles.
Technically Aidan is correct in referring to it as the British Commonwealth. It's just another example of modern Political Correctness activists trying to impose today's terminology upon the past. Which in my opinion is extremely wrong, they teach you in history explicitly not to do that, the fundamental point of history is to avoid painting modern terminology and ideals onto the past but to try and understand the past through the eyes of those that were there at the time. So British Commonwealth stands. It be like renaming Nazi Germany, 'the evil dictatorial Republic that did no good", whilst that might be an apt sentiment you can't go round renaming stuff like this because it's considered offensive. It's paramount to craziness on the weirdest of levels.
Stu Joe,I hope that you didn't mind me creating all those new British Commonwealth-related categories. If anyone has any more information, including catalogue numbers, you're more than welcome to contribute, that is,after you've signed up for an account; www.numiswiki.com . Aidan.
