Is this rule directed at a specific individual/individuals? Or are you just trying to say "Don't state 'facts' or give advice if you don't know for sure"?
My guess would be both. It is amazing what some people think they know. It is best to have the mind frame of "I don't know jack squat" and go from there (myself included). Some interesting characters making noise recently on this site. Entertaining and sometimes sad.
I believe it's weighted towards one individual.....an individual that needs a lot more experience and knowledge in the hobby before they even attempt to write a guide. The sad thing is that newer collectors may take his view on things as gospel......
Thank you. I found myself crossing over into the sad portion, and it really isn't necessary. Time to chill out and let people be who they are. In the long scheme of things, none of this matters.
In most cases, letting people be who they are is fine, but as Green said he needs a lot more experience and knowledge before doing such a thing. Its not only this certain someone, but anyone who puts on the expert hat is possibly doing a disservice to a newbie. There should be some level of personal responsibility taken to ensure questionable info is not given to new and impressionable collectors. In the long scheme of things, this really can matter since coins cost money and what may be a trinket to you or I may be big to someone else. You did nothing wrong in starting this thread.
Kasia - I have no idea what you originally posted. But in keeping with the title of your thread, beginners, and advanced collectors alike, should find this helpful - http://www.cointalk.com/f33/ There is just a ton of very helpful information in there !
