Man, things seem to popping up all over...my Son AJ is into trains big time and this was just called into me from a friend.
Take a look at this Baby! A one dollar note printed for the Railroad Company by the American Bank Note Company , New York.

This fits both my son's likes (for Xmass) and my New York collection!! On the bottom of the reverse it spells out the "American Bank Note Co, New York"

Let me know your thoughts on this special note...

Whoa! That is one attractive note there.

(It just occured to me - if you include the American bank Note Co in your NY note collection, you've got A LOT of work to do!)

Hello Art...It is unissued but not a specimen...it was never assigned or numbered. I was infored that the note passed down from a bank owner through a few generations.

Beautiful note to say the least! Thanks for taking a peek.

Yes, I am aware that the American Bank Note Company has thousands of examples out there...
I am not into collecting all of them just the 4th and 5th Issues of Fractional currency and now that cool Railroad Note my friend/dealer called me on.
I only picked it up fro the main reason that my son is into trains big time. This is something I can leave him and he can leave his son and so on and so on...

Thank you for taking a look at this note and thanks for your post!

    Regards,

    RickieB

I'm sure your son will love it. It is a very nice note. Glad it has found a good home. I was at my local coinshop today and he had a few New York notes on display. Those must be the few that you haven't managed to obtain! He had some very nice notes and I couldn't decide on which I wanted. So I walked away with a very nice BU Standing Liberty instead. I hope your luck on finding those great notes continues.

That is a great note. I was looking at that one the other night, and I was tempted, but it is to close to Christmas to be buying a great note for myself.

    Hi cat1026...
Thanks for taking a look. He, (Mr.Kelly) is sometime slow to take things off the site...that one lasted but a few short moments..LOL
I learned that lesson the hard way and now view it everyday several times a week for new listings.

I don't want to rain on your parade but you do need to know that there are many reprints of the notes of the Tallahassee Railroad Company. If you got this note from a credible source, then you should be OK. Russell Kaye of the Sellitstore has discussed reprints of US obsoletes over on the Collectors Universe discussion board. The Tallahassee notes come up repeatedly in his discussions. The reprints are often sold on Ebay as original notes.

Here is what Mr. Kaye had to say about these (I copied it from the CU board because I don't know how to link it):

Also beware of the tallahassee Railroad reprints which also lack sharpness and have a washed out green color. Genuine examples of all of these notes exist in quantity but when compared side by side with lithographic copies, the fakes lack definition and sharpness. A good place to see this difference is in the imprint, sharp and well formed letters on genuine notes, shaky, irregular letters on the copies.

    Hello Lettow,
    Thank you so much for the warning. With all the underhanded dealing going on over the years this is the one thing that I was taught by my Mentors;
"Always know whom you are buying from and that your protection is assured" from Dear friends that own a shoppe in Mobile, ALabama. The source I use for 65% of my notes is Mr. Don C. Kelly, he is indeed an honorable man whom is well known throught the paper community and beyond.

    Kind regards,

    RickieB
