I'll guess you are talking about the 15-S. Looks real but cleaned.

I, too, wonder exactly why you believe it to be a counterfeit.

Please take a magnified image of date and mintmark only. So far, IMO the coin looks genuine but the "S" looks added.

A definite counterfeit . . . the shape of the numeral "5" is completely wrong.

Yup, looks counterfeit. As @ToughCOINS pointed out, the "5" in the date looks way off.

Sadly @ToughCOINS is right, shape of the 5 is all wrong. Here is an image from coinfacts. It's a shame because that is a beaut!

Edit: Well @Endeavor you beat me to it!

If I recall from studying modern series years ago, the Frankllin Half Dollar appeared to introduce the 5 with the downward-pointing tail, and other denominations followed suit.

Does it have VDB in the bust? It's clearly not an early Lincoln based on the details. Maybe a 45-S?

CoinCorgi Tell your dog I said hi!

The 45-S had a 5 like the 15-S. The 55-S on the other hand had the 5 with the downward-pointing tail.

Interesting, considering it's not one of the bigger keys.

Looks like something from China. They made their hub from a later date Lincoln Cent (1940's to 1970's), and changed the date. The S mintmark gives away the origin.

What the Chinese do is transfer the design if a genuine coin to a counterfeit die, and use that as a hub for all of the other dates. As such, each coin will have the same style, defects, die cracks, etc.

The Chinese cointerfeit EVERYTHING!!! I just ordered a fake 1958 D cent for the sheer novelty of it.

And a word of caution: almost none of these are cast; they are struck counterfeits.

I suppose, but the cost to manufacture small denominations is likely prohibitive. Such problems do not exist in the collectibles market.

While I certainly respect those who feel differently, I am of the belief that it is (or at least can be) beneficial to familiarize oneself with that particular website, especially if new to the hobby. After all, it offers what is arguably the most easy access to such material, and such people are also the most likely targets for the unscrupulous individuals buying from it.
