I thought my pictures were getting pretty good... and then I received my copy of Numismatic Photography by Mark Goodman.

Wow. I need to completely start over in order to further advance my photographic technique. I have my eye on a copy stand on eBay and I am going to get another good light (instead of the crappy bulbs I have been using in lamps from around the house). I may even save up to get a new camera! :D

Your photos have gotten much much better. Your avatar is proof of that fact. When you first read his book, it can be overwhelming. But if you follow his methods and incorporate his ideas slowly into you photography process, you will find the transition easier. I keep all my old photos so that I can see the advancement in the results.

As for lighting, I like fluorescent bulbs the best. A copy stand is basically mandatory unless you like your photos out of focus.

Take solace in the fact that your are getting very good as a coin photographer.

Thank you and I have been using a tripod instead, but I think a copy stand will help.
