Wouldn't it be neat if the Treasury reissued the $500- $10,000 notes at a premium?

Wouldn't it be great if the Treasury would redesign and reissue the $$500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills, as well as issue new $200, and $2,000 Federal Reserve notes at such a high premium for collector reasons only, that they would not be worth buying just to spend? And also, if they redesigned them every time the $5-$100 were redesigned?

    Like maybe:

    $700: $500 bill

    $1,200: $1,000 bill

    $5,500: $5,000 bill

    $11,000: $10,000 bill

(The only problem I see, would still be counterfeiters  )

In case you haven't noticed, they cannot even succeed at printing the new $100 bills - I wouldn't trust them thence to print higher denominations.

I bet the Colombian Cartels, and Russian Arms Industry would LOVE the idea of having these high denominations available again......smaller rollerized luggage !

They have them, there are articles around now that the preferred new currency is now the 500 Euro note. Right now this is worth around $750, so the $100 is now not as used.

We already get a "premium" by issuing notes, that is an interest free loan. They killed the higher denominations in the past because of outlaws, but I could see the US looking at all of the interest free money they could receive and if times gets tougher for Washington go back to issuing them. I haven't seen a politician yet who doesn't drool over the prospect of spending more money.

I read an article about the 500 Euro. It's nickname is "bin Ladens" because the populace knows what they are, and what they look like, but nobody has ever seen one. The article went on to say 25% of all the 500 Euro's are within Spain's border, and being used for money laundering, drug dealings, and tax evasion.

Not the Russian arms industry, really in the scheme of things it is small potatoes, rather it is the Russian government, whoops I mean Russian mafia, huh - oh the lines of distinction are just so blurred it is hard to tell who is a crook and who is government.

Several years ago when I was in the Russian Far East, my luggage was taken to my room in the hotel by a porter. I handed him some ruble notes and he grumbled in Russian, "What no dollars?" Of course I understood him and exclaimed Yeah, we are in the USSR my man - rubles for you, rubles for me, rubles for all! He took his ruble tip and hurried out. Besides I didn't have any dollars anyway, all I had were rubles and a few German Marks.
