I have taken it upon myself to call out certain sellers on a certain selling platform on their blatantly wrong listings. Some have been appreciative as they say they don't deal in coins/money and selling something they inherited. I'm sure some of those are true while I'm also skeptical that some of them are just trying to prey on the less informed out there.

    Case in point: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1975-no-mi...585323?hash=item33f23052eb:g:PRkAAOSwiVJbP5FN

As there's just over an hour left on the bidding, I really don't expect to hear back from the seller.

I was asked to and did fill out a survey from this site. When asked why I gave certain parts very low ratings, I politely stated that they need to police the predators because they are giving them a bad reputation. We'll see if I get a response???

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

One of my specialties is pre-war Jefferson nickels. I once politely informed a seller of a so-called 1939 proof Jefferson nickel that it was a polished business strike and NOT a PROOF at all. I had JUST gotten finished doing a Money Talk on 1939 nickels. The seller tried to go after MY eBay account! I metaphorically swore off eBay then and there. My attitude is that people who buy and sell there DESERVE to get ripped off.

BUT... I just did a fraud report on this listing.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I really hope nobody is dumb enough to buy that - 0 bids for a ridiculous listing from a seller with 0 feedback.

Darn it, Jason, I feel I shouldn't even HAVE TO worry about this kind of stuff, but that's not the world the Internet gives us.

I think the $3.95 shipping will deter anyone from buying that. Pay that kind of money and don't get free shipping... ridiculous!! :greedy:

    Follow up...

I found a 63 mint set (because I love older mint sets) for a reasonable price and decided to check out the pics. As I looked it over it hit me that what was pictured was a 63D and a proof set, not "P". I contacted the seller to share this info. They got right back with me and thanked me but was too late to change the listing. I bid and won and consider this a "bonus pick" for the price paid.

BTW... never heard back from Mr $2499. It didn't sell, but he re-listed it with the same price :blackeye:

Proof sets would be Philadelphia minted in 1963, if it was 1963 D then it would be a mint set, not proof.

Okay, let me rephrase... there were 2 celo wraps pictured, one was a "D"enver mint (red trim) and the other was a proof set (clear, no trim) and this was listed as a mint set. There was no "P"hilly (blue trim) shown, just the Denver mint and Proof. Does that clear up any confusion I may have caused?

As Numismatists and collectors we should be doing more of this. Kudos to you! I make it a point to get on ebay a couple times a week and report the chinese sellers with the fakes. It's ridiculous that this crap is allowed to continue! I just found the Coinweek podcast and one of the ones I listened to was about the rampant counterfeiting going on in China and how it enters the US. If we do nothing then it continues, If we do something, even a little then we are all the more better for it. We can't stop it, even in regards to what the OP showed us but we can try to get rid of what we are capable of.
