I have heard of the discontinued 7070 type set album selling for more then that. Guess it depends on supply...

To be honest I wouldn't pay that much for an album, ever. I doubt either of those brands offer any protection.

    and demand.

However, I agree with Detecto, there are new Dansco albums to be had for less.

What you guys are missing here is that this Library of coins album is very rare, especially in that condition.
Some people collect these albums. I really like LOC albums, and personally have quite a few, including the hard-to-find small coin type set.

I guess I was confused since you compared it to a new Dansco.

I admit that I'm new to collecting, but I am very confused over the issue of "library of coins". This appears to be a discontinued album and I feel that the Dansco albums are a lot cheaper. Plus admittedly they may be rare I really don't understand what is so special about this particular album that makes it worth $100.

Sometimes coins will tone really well in older albums, I am not familiar with this one though.

I guess the same thing makes these albums rare is the same thing that makes many coins rare...availability and demand. I have half a dozen LOC albums, but I didn't pay a dime for any of them as they were given to me by the owner of the coin shop I visit often. He gets collections in that are in these albums from time to time and he takes the coins out and usually tosses the albums. So I take them off his hands. I actually think they are of better quality than any album made today.

Its probably like trying to compare apples and oranges. I am sure the demand for these LOC albums is such that there is not enough to go around, hence the price. Me personally, I guess I would spend my numismatic resources on something other than a LOC album.

And hey you can sell them later on and make a few bucks. :) I know my dealer keeps some of the older albums for collectors - not sure if he sells them or not. I doubt it - considering everything I have got for free.

Geeze... I only paid $15 for a brand new Dansco 7070 morgan year album. I could never see spending $100 on an empty album like that....Worst part is there is probably some Idiot out there that will.
