Maybe, maybe not. That's (IMO) at the very top of the market for that coin. Nice strike, but the scan (scanners don't lie :) ) reveals marks on the fields and the cheek that would keep it from MS65. Probably MS64, too, and that $750 is what PCGS says that coin is worth in MS64. That number, of course, is wildly optimistic.

If I could see it in person, and I really needed that particular coin, and I was feeling generous that day, I might give that much. It'll likely grade ~MS62-63, possibly 64.

Thanks. I made an offer of $150 on it and I have not heard back yet. I was thinking the same thing but wanted a second set of eyes to look at it before I pulled the trigger.

    nope--for 2 reasons..

the mark by the 1 in the date adn the "toned" spot on the rim on the top...I have some Morgans that look like that and it is from where the coin was in a 2x2 and the staples rusted and some of it got on the coin..

    $750 is WAY high...

    Speedy,

$750 was not the offer. Would you buy it for $150? That is the question. He accepted my offer for $150.

I would not call this coin more than MS63 and the price is WAY out of line.

Missed the $185 myself. $150 is most certainly a fair price for the coin.

Wouldn't buy it on a bet - even for $150. There are currently PCGS MS62 examples listed in completed auctions that have sold for as little as $102 - $139 - example 1 example 2

I thought $150 was more than fair for a raw specimen of this date. He has an 1899P but wants almost $300 for it. And it is in the same grade.

I knew that whoopig---and I was trying to say I wouldn't buy this coin...I'll try to be plainer next time--now let me say I don't think when someone has made a bid that they should back out on it but I have had better looking coins come back MS60 CLEANED---the bag marks and also where the luster is messed up is what gets me.

Hope when you get it in person it looks better than the photos!!!

I would readily agree with you in some cases. But for this particular coin I would not. As Speedy mentioned - those appear to be rust marks on the top rim. And the coin appears quite baggy and lacking in eye appeal IMO. The lack of eye appeal may be due to the pics - or it simply may not be there.

Please understand - it's not the price I question - it is THIS particular coin.

These opinions are why I like to post here. Honest judgement and a host of knowledge all at my fingertips. Thanks all.

Personally I think it is just the scan that gives it a "washed out" look. I have a return option on it so if it looks terrible in hand I will return it.
