..if the seller denoted the item as a forgery? In other words, they reassured you that the slab and/or coin is "definitely a fake". As wrong as it sounds, what are your thoughts?
If it's in a fake holder, something is so wrong with it that the real company wouldn't even slab it, so probably not
I may pay a couple of dollars for a well made slabbed coin but it would only be for educational purposes. I'm truly surprised that someone would openly sell a fake tho! What's the deal?
Nah ! I wouldn't feel right about selling it and I just don't like fake or phony stuff. I would rather have an empty space than fill it with a fake. gary
very well written...agree completly, imagine trying to sell a fake slab too..esp if its semi-obvious...would never get your investments worth
Upon my urging, my mom stopped carrying her lucky pocket piece, an '89cc Morgan, so I gave her a nice Chinese copy to carry for luck. It looked really good (not shiny!) That was a good use for a fake...
I might buy it only for the ability to see a counterfeit PCGS slab in hand (I have not yet). But it would have to be VERY cheap.
Fake coin, probably not. Coin, real or fake in a fake slab Definitely if I can afford to. I need them for my reference collection.
Having recently been burned with a 1795 $1 that turned out to be a Chinese counterfeit, no way would I ever buy a fake slab, unless it was to send it to the TPG whose slab it was supposed to be. The danger is buying a counterfeit slab is that it could enter the market and some unsuspecting person would end up with it and ultimately lose his/her money. My recommendation, should you come across a fake slab, is to copy its information and notify the relevant TPG.
