Would this indent be an error?

The indent in washingtons neck is so smooth it looks like it was always there. there is no distortion around the area indicating impact, and there is no metal pushed to the side of the indent to indicate an impact. the other side of the coin looks fine, it is really hard to say if any distortion on the back is present, the indent from the other side would land around the drummers forehead or hat area.
This is a well circulated coin.

I do not know if this type of indent could be caused at a mint, I turn this over to your capable minds.

Ditto! It also looks like there may be a slight disturbance on the reverse on the forward point of the tricorn. PMD!

PMD for sure. I found a nickel in a roll that has this same thing on it, except it's 4 of them (but the nickel is more beat up than your quarter)

I just received this coin as change from a cafe in Robbinsdale MN on the 21st of may 2011, Are you saying that Some other person has posted this Exact coin on this exact site before???

That would be amazing because I spent an hour and a half Driving through search engines and picture search engines on the web before ever posting on here to try and conclude for myself what the fine people here helped me conclude.

It would stand to reason that had the coin been posted before I would have found it.

I have found many state quarters from brand new rolls with these round indents in them so this may have been done at the mint by having something struck into the coin by the die. sometimes a piece of something can get stuck on a coin die and keep repeating this process until it finally wears out or falls off the die. If this is MD then there will be a small raised area on the other side of this coin directly behind this sunken in area. I had two identical state quarters and have misplaced them somewhere here in my home that I called the fireworks coins. they had these round dots in all different sizes going all the way to the top edge of the coins and it looked like a grand finale at a fireworks show. I found them from new rolls of coins while searching for the Minnesota extra tree coins.
