What is going on in the field behind his head? Something looks odd there, but it may just be the picture. I'm going to guess AU-58, based on the very slight amount of rub on the very highest points. This is the kind of coin that often gets slabbed as a 63-64 - but shouldn't.
I agree, looks like it was wiped based on the marks in the fields. I wouldn't mind owning it if the price was right.
I though ms 60 or 62. Here is a graded AU 53, when you look at it, the first o e I posted seem much nicer....it's that the gap between an ugly AU and a really good looking AU 62. I also noticed the reeded edge dig just above his ear in his wig.
Looks uncirculated to me. A few bag marks, wear on the hair from being in a roll for 80 years, and a slight fingerprint from whomever put it there. None of which are really noticable when the photos aren't blown up 50 times the actual size.
'64 to these eyes. Looks like a very nice piece and one that I wouldn't mind adding to my holdings.........
Well, it certainly has MS luster, but slightly weak on high points. That could just be from friction wear, though. I certainly like the look of this coin, regardless.
I noticed that, too, but generally, on high grade coins like this, it is much harder to add a MM, unless the coin is whizzed to hide the addition.
Thats not tooling marks to the left and right of the top serif is it.... I would have to look @ this one in-hand to make that call but i dont like the looks of it TBH
It's genuine. The S is square/blocky shaped, and you can see a die crack out of the back of the eagle's head. As for the AU grade, on the slab image you can see pale gray on the high points of the portrait. That's rub. The fields can't really be assessed from these images.
