I doubt this is worth grading. Picked it up at auction yesterday. I thought about it but upon further looking at it with a loop I am not so sure I would send it in. But a few opinions would be nice.
Well, on my gram scale it's spot on at 26.7 grams so it's not too light or too heavy. It fits perfectly into a 38mm round plastic holder and it came from an auction with a very reputable outfit that does a coin auction the last Monday of every month that a few local dealers attend so I am sure it's legit. You may think that it's counterfeit because of the pics I took in natural light outside in the shade and then did an auto contrast to lighten it up a little.
You cannot be sure it is legit, as there are a lot of good fakes. Not worth slabbing anyway, due to condition--it it is genuine.
The reverse rim varies in width significantly as you go around it. The obverse fields look dead/flat. These are observations. I am not a Morgan expert.
How does the reeding look? You might compare the reeding of your new coin to other Morgan dollars. An 1884 CC dollar in MS61 is listed at something like $166 today. IMO the coin depicted is below that grade and the coin's authenticity is questionable. If you paid a lot of money for a real coin, then you may consider asking the auction house about their return policy.
Every time I post a coin, someone always cries, "FAKE!" or "CLEANED!" or something like that. I mean, it can happen, but I think we're all naturally critical of other people's merch. (Or so it seems). To me it looks like you have a $100-$110 coin and I personally wouldn't spend the extra $$$ on a slab. It's a nice coin, and no one can deny the popularity of anything with a "CC" on it.
It is really nothing personal. I think we would all love to see some amazing coins and congratulate the owner, but sadly not every coin is perfect. As for the OPs coin, I have to agree with the rest. Sorry, try to get a refund.
