I guess this is the right location for this... Locally there is a Mint Roll of 1996 D JFK 1/2s for sale for $16+ tax... Is it worth picking it up or is there no value to these other than face?
Just wait and sooner or later you can get them for much less. Just wait and sooner or later you can get them for much less. These rolls are everywhere - I've had people pay me at shows with these at face value. If you do get them they usually come very nice in this year/mint.
I bought 2 boxes of 1996-D's 4 or 5 years ago from the bank at face value. The going rate on ebay then was $16.00 a roll. I could have sold for a profit but didn't want to hassle with it, so I searched a few rolls for anomolies then spent them all. Mind you, I got these in 2004 or 2005, almost 8-9 years after production from the bank who ordered 1/2's for me. My guess is that there could very well be plenty still available. Like Bhp3rd said, wait, sooner or later you'll find them cheaper. Rock
This date appears to be well represented in FED storage. If they get melted it's a great date but until they do it's best to consider this impossibly common. They have some all the way back to 1994. Tread lightly with these but keep in mind that most could shoot up if it's found they aren't available any longer. For $16 you can get much more desirable clad rolls.
thanks for the advice. will have to check out another display with a bunch of proof washingtons from the 70s and 80s
