i believe it needs to be 40 or higher to be a good deal...?

If you can't get your money back..don't even buy it. That's a big red flag. It's hard to tell anything from that photo, and it almost looks fake to me. 1892-S is worth about $300 in XF grade, and $1,500 in AU.

If the guy wants $150 for it, and if it's not cleaned, than that's too good to be true.

Like I said, if it's sold as final, run...don't walk.

Not to sound rude, but maybe you should do more reading and less buying, that way you'll know how to grade, and look up examples to see what they bring.

I have an even better idea... Don't buy any Morgans unless they're already graded by PCGS or NGC.

Can't agree more on this as this teaches you how to grade and protects one from the many counterfeit coins flooding the hobby.
Be advised that for the to good to be true deals that show up every so often there are a few cases every so often of slabs being counterfeited to.

All the Morgans I bought are in MS condition... I am simply skipping the key dates so I don't risk to overpay for lower grade coins. If you really want to buy the coin shown above why don't you ask the seller to provide high res pics?

PS: or ask him if it has been cleaned and whether he would take back the coin if a TPG returns it as details/cleaned?

Realistically, I can't imagine ANY individual agreeing to that particular guarantee. If it were me, I would offer to submit the coin (on the purchaser's checkbook) and if it came back cleaned, I'd refund the money. Otherwise, the buyer would get the coin.

Sorry but that thing is ugly. You can do better.

It is a definite red flag coin--ugly and crude looking. Whether or not it is counterfeit, it would be hard to say definitively, as the pictures don't tell enough. However, given it is an excellent date, I'd not buy any date like that outside of a slab.

If you can't determine value for yourself, then you should NEVER buy.

Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book.

Then buy another book, and Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book, Read the book.

    Then consider buying

you could get some common date morgans in midgrades and study what to look for and compare to slabbed ones 'till you gat a feel for things. it does take some time.

Even once you get a feel - you will make mistakes, but they will be less costly. Get some books on Morgans and grading - then look at as many in hand as possible. It really does make a difference seeing them in hand.

Awful looking coin--an obvious hideous cleaning. That coin is completely ruined. PASS.
