I know several of you have beautiful examples of this coin, but when I saw this particular version I had to have it. The portrait is super with a perfect Roman nose. Just too bad the reverse is not as detailed. P CLODIUS MF TURRINUS ROMAN REPUBLIC; GENS CLAUDIUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: Laureate head of Apollo right, lyre behind REVERSE: Diana standing facing, with bow and quiver over shoulder, holding lighted torch in each hand; P CLODIVS right, M F on left Rome 42BC g, mm Cr494/23, Claudia 15
Some nose! I find it interesting in comparison with my coin of the type with a very boring nose. Why? I have no idea.
I suppose someone in the mint had a thing for the typical Roman nose. Too bad my coin does not have as good of reverse as yours.
The type is very common but many suffer from bad strikes(i.e. areas of weakness, off-center, etc.). High grade examples with good strikes are fairly scarce.
Thats interesting, if i was looking to purchase a similar example in a similar grade how much do you think that i should pay for it?
It's hard to say exactly what you'd pay, but there are a decent number on Vcoins anywhere from $40 USD on up to £400.00 GBP(~$600 USD).
Mikey's and Bing's coins join mine to illustrate the point red_spork made: I wish mine had the right side legend and hair detail of Bing's. Mikey's has great detail except where it has none at all. It is the finest of the three even with the terribly uneven strike. It is no wonder that we find examples differing in price by a factor of ten.
