    2 Good Reasons Why:

First issued from 1907 until 1932 and then snatched off the market
    ..

The Saint-Gaudens gold $20 1933 double eagle had to be the most beautiful American coin in existence..

445,500 Double Eagles minted with the 1933 date stamped on them would never see circulation because of unforeseen changes made to currency laws during times of the Great Depression.

Not only were no more gold coins to be issued for circulation, is it rumored that people had to turn in the ones they had.

The 1933 Double Eagles are then Ordered by the government to be annihilated..

This unthinkable order made it It illegal for private everyday citizens to own gold coins, unless or course they clearly had a collectible value.

This law was ignorantly enacted during some pretty desperate times to prevent the accumulation of gold currency.

With no more gold currency being issued in the United States, the Mint melts down the 1933 run of Gold Double Eagles and converts them to gold bullion bars by 1937. The rest, as they say, was history.
This makes the 1933 double eagle a coin a target for connoisseurs world wide and to me the hottest coin in any collection!
