My new pretty cool piece!! World's Colombian Exposition Chicago Administration Building 1492-1893 Christopher Columbus Sterling silver coin. I believe this is a snuff coin or a locket, not sure? Let me know.
    Thanks Bob Allen

It is supposed to be a medal, one that does not open up this way. The medal is worth around $100-$125 in good shape.

I suspect this is a souvenir locket made to LOOK like the medal and not made from the medals themselves. There was actually an artisan at the exposition making lockets from coins (Columbian halves, Trade dollars, etc). He would take two coins, hollow one out, put in the hinge, and attach it to the cut down second coin so it would close and fit inside the first one. But this piece appears to be made from an embossed shell made to look like the obv of the medal.
