World paper money collection

Discussion in 'Paper Money' started by FrozenExplosion, Mar 13, 2013.

  1. hello everyone, i was recently given a large World currency collection, paper money from all over the place, i think 70 different countries, all gathered within the last 15 years from my parents and parents friends* during their travels and vacations and whatnot. Have brought them to my local coin shop and they are telling me a lot of foreign currency gets demonetized and holds no value here nor there, i can post pictures of the lot, but in whole there is like 130 pieces so not sure the best way to go about getting this value. any help would be great thanks all.

Don't worry about it, we like pictures, it's currency porn. I'd say the value of the collection is probably minimal, maybe a couple bucks each as they appear to be semi contemporary issue though there are too many countries shown I think for any one person to value for you ( I see a low value Egypt note, for instance, not worth much here or in Egypt ). I'd keep it for myself or my posterity - it has far more value in that sense.

If you really want to know the value, go to eBay and search each note by country and denomation - say Egypt 50 piastres - and look at the sold completed auctions. You will see exactly what people are will to pay. That's the value...

The Micheal Faraday 20 pound note is not longer legal tender (it was withdrawn in 2001) it is however exchangable for a current note at the Bank of England on Threadneedle St. in London, not that that helps anything, just interesting.

The Danish 100 kroner note (in post #10) is a current one, I think. The face value is about €13.40 or $17.30 ...
