Just wondering if there is some people here that collect world notes. I was thinking of starting a collection for my son (birthday present) along with a geography/history lesson. I actually have a few from our travels, just thought we should add to them. Is there certain things I should look for as well as avoid? Didn't know if I should exchange from local airport or buy online or what. I do know some friends who are donating to our collection, so I'm looking forward to getting them! Brian
I've seen some definitions of "world notes" that are quite surprising to me... how do you define the term? Dave
Well, legal bank currency from other counties. I'm thinking of starting with Western Europe, however I'm open to other regions. By the way, I'm very new to paper currency. Brian
From that sense, collecting world notes will be no different (IMO) than picking any other country or specialty. If you expect the collection to maintain any value or even grow in value, you 1) need to look for absolutely top quality notes, and 2) Need to focus on rarity. Specialize in something you like, put together a fantastic collection of quality material. If you are doing a fun project with your son, that will be something the two of you can share, etc, then you may not care much about future value. If that's the case, find a topic your son might be interested in, and go for it. I don't have kids, but my guess would be something like "animals on banknotes" might be more appealing than "countries of the former Yugoslavia region", for example Dave
