Is there an index out there anywhere that lists world coins based on their design elements? E.g. coins with lions, ships, birds of any sort, birds other than eagles, flowers, bovines, etc. Yeah, I know I can thumb through the Krause catalog, but that would take a while. I'm just looking for coins with interesting design elements to add to my collection, not trying to identify any specific coin.
I have used this sight to search using key words. works pretty good, but sometimes will not list all of coins available. link: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php I have used it to find world coins with insects, hands, stars coins. it works very good for me since I am doing these topical/themed collections.
An index would be awesome, but would take someone a long time to complete. Seems like I came across something a long time ago but I can't find it in my database. I'll keep looking. Meanwhile here are a couple of links that I have that feature themed coins. http://www.wcoins.com/CoinAquarium.htm http://www.joelscoins.com/zoo.htm
Google can sometimes be helpful, but I'm sure you already thought of that. I use key words, then go to images...(ie. lion coins, ship coins, bird coins, etc....) Its always a good starting point.
