Just wondering if any of you out there know of a good web site with pictures of world coins to help figure out what coins are. I have a couple hundred world coins and for the most part I have identified the country of origin, but would like to identify the denomination and variety as well.
There are a few sites with extensive pictures of world coins, but the easiest way to accomplish your purpose is to visit your local public library and consult the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause & Mishler. Most libraries have at least the 20th/21st Century volume (bigger than a New York City or Los Angeles telephone book) and will either have the almost as large 17th, 18th and 19th Century volumes,, or be able to get on interlibrary loan.
Don't think there is a complete and up-to-date coin catalog online. But you could try these two English language sites ... http://www.worldcoincatalog.com/ http://www.worldcoingallery.com/ This one is in German: http://www.inkoze.de/linkswelt.html (The 1999 edition of a German world coin catalog; click on any character in the alphabet to get a list of countries which begin with that letter.) Thanks for the superior link. I was able to identify all of my coins with the exception of 2 The first one I had thought was from Pakistan but I can't seem to ID it for sure The second I have no Ideas on Can anyone help? The Scans aren't the greatest but hopefully they will work
I'm new to this, but my Krause catalogs have finally arrived! The first one looks like a Pakistan rupee (KM #62) and the second one a Pakistan 10 paisa (KM #36).
