I've been working on a world type set: Hungarian coins of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise period (1867-1918). In studying these coins, I've noticed that most of the updates within a denomination denote type changes and not series changes. With the exception of commemoratives, most of the changes are to update a bust on the obverse, to update the shield heraldry on the reverse, or to change the metal.

Very rarely were there instances where there is a true series change within a denomination during this time period. By plotting each denomination and determining if a given transition (by KM#) is a type change or a series change, I have noted 22 distinct series consisting of 45 types within this period. The denomination is easy to see and the type can be represented by the KM#, however, I am at a loss as to how to refer to the series. Is there an authoritative reference on world coin series names, or does this information not exist? Everything I have seen seems to disregard series in favor of the types.
