At first I thought it might be early India, Iran, or Turkey. I am stuck now ugh... not knowing is driving crazy. Wait for more opinions...
I looked threw my 17th, 18th, and 19th century Krause catalogs and did not see your coin there. sorry. maybe @lordmarcovan or @panzerman or @Siberian Man might know what this is ???
You might put this in the Ancient Coins forum for better results ? Someone there might know what this is....
I know what you mean. I get a vague "Central Asian" vibe there, is all. My guess was some Indian state. That sounds plausible to me, and was my second (wild-) guess. No, I'm as clueless as you are on this one. Arabic and Far Eastern coins are my blind spots. No, I can rather confidently state that I do not think this is ancient. It is merely old. It looks 18th or 19th century (AD) to me, based upon the style of it, and while I cannot confirm the dealer's "1878 Afghanistan" attribution, I will say that that sounds plausible enough to me, until proven otherwise. Someone else here will likely know.
