Hello everyone. I recently got my girlfriend to start collecting coins. She likes foreign money but we can't seem to find anywhere that sells the folders for world money. Does anybody have a website we can purchase some folders? Thanks

I am no expert, but as no one else has responded - here is my twopennies worth!

If you are looking for Whitman style folders - pre marked for dates and denominations - I know these were made for US, Canadian and UK coins. Best way to get them now is on online auctions sites such as Ebay. I am sure other countries have done this sort of thing in the past, but I do not know of any generic supplier - again searching on auction sites is probably your best bet.

Many people love this way of collecting, but it is probably not the best answer if you are getting really good quality coins as the folders do not really give much protection, and the coins are prone to dropping out. Better is to either use individual coin holders, or purpose made generic folders (non PVC). Again there are numerous suppliers of these sundries on the net.

Folders are fine if you KNOW you wish to assemble a set based upon how the folder company views a "set".

Personally, I never have, so I just choose to use flips or 2x2's in pages to hold my coins. You can dictate what you consider a "set". :)

This is a good point. I have folders for Canadian coins, and there are several varieties based on the queen's "shoulder fold" for a few years in the 1 cent and I think 5 cent. The folder has four spots for these, and I have no intention of ever pursuing them because I'm not a variety collector. But this means my set will never look complete.

Yeah, I learned this early on with US cent folders when I was 8. Even then I hated being dictated to what I should collect, (its probably an innate character deficiency), and when I knew enough about the coins I hated the fact the folder contained a spot for a 22 plain, (to me just a defective, overly polished cent), and a 55 double die, (to me just a horrible manufacturing blunder). However, for the book to look "complete" it MUST contain these coins.

That was when I decided I would strike my own path, and never again worry about what others thought a "set" was. Its my hobby, I will collect as I like. :)
