I'm looking for a world coin book at a reasonable price. I've seen prior posts mentioning that prior year's editions can be obtained at bargain prices. But the sites I've search do not provide such bargains. The local bookstores in my area all carry current editions ranging form $40-$60. Does anyone know where I can get a prior edition for a bargain?
I checked out amazon.com and they have used copies of 2004 Standard Catalog of World Coins for as little as $14.10. You can also purchase a new copy of the 2006 Edition for $34.65. Not bad compared to book store prices. Amazon.com Jim
Maybe I’ll look into this, too. IIRC, The Krause books I looked at were $50 apiece, and only covered 100 years, and not all of Europe. I’d like to look at and study European coins, I s’pose about 14th to 18th centuries, for all of Europe, plus Greek and Roman coins from much earlier, but the cost to buy all the books would leave me no money to buy any of the coins ! I read that some of these very old coins are surprisingly inexpensive. Maybe; I am interested in an old Athenian drachma, the one with Athena on one side and a pop-eyed owl on the reverse, but I saw an ad somewhere where they wanted about $300 for this coin ! For me, that’s not inexpensive.
