    Bone,you're my hero!
I've always avoided those uncleaned lots because I figured they'd be unproductive but you've changed my mind.

Thanks guys, here is the obverse after another electrolysis (sp) treatment and a little brass brushing. Check out the eye detail :) I'm going to give it a break tonight and finish it up tomorrow.

My son and I did one of these Roman projects recently it turned out to be Constantine II, we even id'd the mint with a bit of help with entering the legends on wildwinds.com. Might want to do this again, it actually was fun and educational for both of us.

workin on one of my own

I have 16 ancients soaking in my kitchen right now, some in distilled water, some in olive oil. And I have an electrolsis set up too, how long do you keep them cookin and how many times can you shock them? Man I hope one of them comes out as good as yours. Doesn't the brass brush scratch them? Cookin, well if you mean the oil or water it can take several weeks. If you mean the electrolosis outfit you only want them to fiz a few minutes at a time. The brass brush on brass coins doesn't help them thats for sure but the trade-off is worth it I think. The damage is minimal considering what they've been thru.

WARNING!!! DON'T use the brush on any coins which may show signs of silver. I ruined two beautiful ones.

Actually oil can take several years for a good result. Distilled water can damage , smooth, patina and small details on the coin, if used for a long periods of time (months):secret:

Do you ever use ultra-sound devices? What about one of those Sonicare electric tooth brushes? They are effective at removing calcareous precipitates.
